The new Bible-study book by Pastor Paul C. Jong of The New Life Mission, “Romans Seen from the Perspective of the Gospel of the Water and the Spirit (I)”, clearly testifies through the Book of Romans about what kind of faith one must have in order to become righteous.
Have you become righteous by believing the Word of God?
The Bible tells us that Jesus came and made us—who were originally sinners—into righteous people. Therefore, it is by believing this truth of salvation that we become righteous.
Fundamentally, we were all sinners—born with sin, fallen into sin, and bound to go to hell.
But Jesus Christ came and, by being baptized by John the Baptist, took upon Himself all our sins at once; and by bearing those sins and dying on the cross, He completely blotted out our sins. By believing in this gospel of the water, the blood, and the Spirit, we have become sinless and righteous, no longer sinners.
Romans 1:16–17: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, 'The just shall live by faith.'"
The spiritual gift of which Paul spoke is none other than the gospel of the baptism of Jesus Christ and His cross—that is, the gospel of the water and the Spirit. Through this gospel, the saints in Rome, the people living there, and the apostle Paul himself all come to receive true rest and comfort. Furthermore, in this gospel the righteousness of God is revealed, leading from faith to faith. The righteousness of God is fully manifested within the gospel.
"For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith." In which gospel was the righteousness of God revealed? It was revealed in the gospel of the water, the blood, and the Spirit. That is, Jesus came to this earth and, by being baptized by John the Baptist, took our sins upon Himself once and for all; bearing the sins of the world, He died on the cross and rose again from the dead, thereby becoming our Savior. This very gospel—by which God the Father, through His Son, saved us with the water, the blood, and the Spirit and established us as righteous—is the gospel that fully reveals the goodness, the righteousness, and the truth of God.
In the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed. Within the true gospel, the righteousness of God is fully manifested. God the Father, through His Son, blotted out all our sins, and the apostle Paul went forth precisely to preach and proclaim that gospel. Pastor Paul C. Jong, and we as well, are now doing this very same work.
Dear friends, everyone who believes in this gospel knows that he has already been justified.
Salvation has already been accomplished once and for all. What now remains is to receive this gospel in our hearts and to live as the righteous. I hope that you too, through the Bible study found in Pastor Paul C. Jong's book “Romans Seen from the Perspective of the Gospel of the Water and the Spirit (I)”, will be guided onto that path and live as one of the righteous.
