Sermons 18 | The Superiority of God’s Love

Updated: Jun 2

What kind of faith are you living with before God?

Is your faith a legalistic one where original sin is forgiven, but each actual sins is dealt with repeatedly through acts such as repentance prayers, fasting prayers, and dedication — following a works-based legalistic faith?

Or is it the faith that believes in the gospel of the water (baptism) and the blood of Jesus, who saved us from all sins once and for all?

Today, I would like to share with you about how God loves us and saved us from sin through excerpts from the sermon book “RETURN TO THE GOSPEL OF THE WATER AND THE SPIRIT.”

This book is Volume 2 of a series written by Pastor Paul C. Jong, a servant of God from The New Life Mission, and we recommend reading it together with Volume 1, “HAVE YOU TRULY BEEN BORN AGAIN OF WATER AND THE SPIRIT?” Grounded in the Bible, and these books clearly present God’s Word based on the Bible in a way that anyone can understand, and they have been translated into many languages worldwide and are available for “Free” as e-books, audiobooks, and bilingual editions. To receive salvation, we must know and believe how Jesus saved us, understanding the supremacy of God’s love. Then, what is the difference between a legalistic faith and this faith in the supremacy of God’s love?

For those with a legalistic faith today, their faith emphasizes their own denomination, beliefs, and experiences.

In contrast, those who believe in Jesus’ spiritual salvation have faith in the superior salvation that came through His water and blood. Such believers silently trust in the salvation of Jesus through water and the Holy Spirit and devote their entire lives to the gospel.

Even today, many who claim to believe in Jesus believe that original sin has been removed, but they live a life of faith believing that they must receive removal of their daily sins and future sins each time they commit them.

Those who live such Old Testament-style faith lives still try to be saved by keeping God’s Law. They do not yet know the superiority of the salvation that has come through water and the Holy Spirit and are unaware of the truth of being born again in their faith life.

In the Old Testament, it was said that salvation could be received by keeping God’s Word and acting according to it through the Law of works. However, this has been abolished with the coming of Jesus in the New Testament.

Our God, knowing the weakness of people and understanding that they are imperfect, completely abolished the Law of works for salvation. Salvation cannot be achieved by keeping the Law.

Jesus said through the gospel of water and the Spirit, “I will directly save you from all sins with water and blood.” This is already shown in Genesis, where God spoke to us.

In Genesis 3:15, it is written, “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Here, God is speaking of humanity’s salvation through the skins of sacrifice after creation.

In the Old Testament, Genesis speaks of two types of garments for salvation:

fig leaves and animal skins. Which is better, fig leaves or animal skins? The leather garments are better because the life of an animal was sacrificed to revive a human life from death.

Fig leaves are not desirable because they need to be made and worn repeatedly. Fig leaves are broad and have five finger-like parts, and they tear easily if you sit down somewhere. When I was young, I used to make clothes from vines like this and play soldier games, but no matter how well I made them, they would tear by the end of the day, leaving only the front intact and revealing my undergarments.

It is not human righteousness but the superior love of God that saved sinners through His baptism and the cross.

This is the love that abundantly saved all humanity from all the sins of the world. This is the supremacy of God’s love.

What is the faith that believes in the supremacy of God’s love?

It is believing in the gospel of Jesus’ water (baptism) and blood, which saves sinners from sin once and for all eternally.

“For by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:20)

We can never receive salvation on this earth through religious faith that is bound by “works” and “Law” of the Old Testament era, which cannot resolve our present and future sins.

God, who fully knows human weakness and our sinful nature, abolished the former way — that is, the Old Testament’s sacrificial system of animal offerings — which constantly reminded people of their sins. In its place, He established a new covenant: the law of salvation by water and the Spirit through Jesus Christ.

We must accurately know and believe the fact that God, Jesus, came to this earth in the flesh, took upon Himself all the sins of this world through baptism from John the Baptist, the representative of mankind, and died on the cross shedding His blood as the price for those sins, thereby completely eliminating all our past, present, and future sins at once.

This faith is believing in the “law of salvation by water and the Spirit(the new covenant),” and we give thanks for the superiority of God’s great love that makes us enjoy heaven and eternal life as children of God by receiving the removal of sin only through faith, regardless of our weaknesses or shortcomings.
